Why August Is the Perfect Time to Start (or Restart) on LinkedIn

Aug 05, 2025
Connect

I had a shocking realization in 2021:

I s*cked on LinkedIn.

I just wasn’t very good.
You could try to talk me out of it—but it was true. I wasn’t getting traction.
My content felt plastic, my strategy was nonexistent, and I was basically invisible.

The irony?
I was a professional writer.

So why couldn’t I get it right?

Because social media writing is not the same as “writing writing.”
In fact, I actually find it harder than writing books.

The Turning Point

I stopped posting for 3 months.
I did nothing but comment, watch, and research.

When I came back, I had built 6 systems:

  1. Branding

  2. Profile

  3. Posts

  4. Content

  5. Engagement

  6. Scaling

Not only did my results improve by 231% in the first year,
I also cut my time investment in half.

I’ve used these same systems ever since.
My clients use them too.
They’re not the only way to grow on LinkedIn—but they work.

Why August Is Your Best Starting Line

If you’ve been thinking about finally getting serious on LinkedIn—or rebooting after a slump—August is statistically your best month to do it. Here’s why:

  • Hiring cycles reset in the fall. According to LinkedIn’s own data, job postings and business activity start to spike again in September, which means building visibility in August puts you ahead of the curve.

  • Content competition is lower. Sprout Social reports that August engagement dips on most platforms—meaning less noise and more room for you to stand out.

  • Decision-makers are in planning mode. A Harvard Business Review study found that Q4 planning starts in late August for most companies. If you show up consistently now, you become part of those Q4 opportunities.

  • Momentum beats January “resolutions.” Studies on habit formation (European Journal of Social Psychology) show you’re 38% more likely to stick to a new habit if you start outside of New Year’s resolution season—when the pressure is lower and the environment is less crowded.

Put simply:
Start now, and you’ll hit September already in motion—while others are still warming up.

Want the Shortcut?

I teach all 6 of my LinkedIn systems—step-by-step—in my LinkedIn Masterclass.

These are the exact systems that helped me grow my results by 231% in one year while working less.

Your Practical Tool: The LinkedIn Systems Self-Check

Before you join—or even if you’re not ready yet—rate yourself 1-5 in each area below (1 = “nonexistent” / 5 = “dialed in and working”):

  • Branding – Is your voice, look, and message consistent across posts, profile, and comments?

  • Profile – Is your profile optimized to attract your ideal audience?

  • Posts – Do your posts consistently drive engagement and conversation?

  • Content – Do you have a content plan that builds trust and authority?

  • Engagement – Do you have a daily or weekly engagement habit that grows your network?

  • Scaling – Do you have systems that help you grow without increasing your time investment?

Your lowest score?
That’s where you should focus first.

You don't have a content problem. Sort of.
LinkedIn is a long game. But the algorithm isn’t. Most people understand the first part. Very few understand the second. LinkedIn feels like a compounding platform. You build an audience, you stay consistent, and over time your content starts to work for you. That part is true. But under the hood, the system operates very differently. LinkedIn’s feed only actively retrieves content from roughly...
Become a better writer in 3 simple steps.
3 ways to become a better writer [each one takes under 90 seconds to learn]. 1. Read your writing out loud. Your ear catches what your eye misses. Clunky sentences, repeated words, and awkward phrasing all reveal themselves the moment you hear them. If you stumble reading it, your reader will too. This one habit alone will do more for your writing than any course, any book, or any amount of sta...
LinkedIn™ is judging you. [Here's how to pass!]
For years, people thought they had LinkedIn figured out. More likes = more reach.More comments = better distribution.Post at the perfect time = algorithm boost. The whole strategy revolved around sending the right signals. If you could get enough engagement quickly, the algorithm would push your post further. And for a long time, that understanding wasn’t entirely wrong. But LinkedInchanged how...
