I’m not the typical content creator.
I have no formal training in social media, marketing, or business. I have an English degree. I’m a mom to three girls and a self-proclaimed cat lady.
I go against the grain in almost every category when compared to most of the big names in content creation.
In fact, the decade before I came to LinkedIn, I was an agented, New York Times Best-Selling Ghostwriter for big publishing houses. I didn’t have to generate leads, think about my brand, or configure offers.
My agent did all of that for me.
But there was a problem: I had no control. No control of when I worked, where I worked, how much I earned, or who I worked with. I was burned out. But more than that, I was tired of building for other people. I realized that as hard as I'd worked over the years, I owned none of it.
That’s when I came to LinkedIn and started my business, The Story Spark. I saw a thriving community of professionals building their brand and growing their audience. And making money too.
At first, I was intimidated. All the “digital nomads” and the social media marketers. I wasn’t like them. At all.
But I had just enough self-belief to try. (Or, as some may say, just enough crazy.)
I thought, Hey. Why not me?
Why can’t I build a brand?
Why can’t I grow an audience?
Why can’t I monetize LinkedIn and take control of my life and income?
This isn't where I tell you I found overnight success. In fact, for the first two years I was on LinkedIn, I flip-flopped. I fell into the same failed thinking that you've probably experienced:

But that third year ... I got fed up. I stopped treating LinkedIn as an option. I started treating it like a job.
I got strategic. I reverse-engineered the success of the biggest names on LinkedIn, studying what they did over scale. I paid for research, I paid for courses, and I paid for people's time.
