What to Post on LinkedIn When You Have No Ideas

Connect

You do not have an ideas problem. You have a capture problem.

Ideas come to you in the shower. In the pickup line. At 11pm when you are half asleep. Then you sit down Tuesday morning with a blank screen and nothing.

The idea was never the issue. You just had nowhere to put it.

Here are the 3 systems I use. None cost money. None require you to add anything to your tech stack.

1. One note in your Notes app.

Label it "LinkedIn Ideas." When an idea shows up, search "LinkedIn," type the idea, done. 15 seconds. Do not organize it, do not categorize it, and do not build a Notion database with tags and a calendar view. You will abandon that by February. 1 note. 1 line per idea.

2. A screenshot album.

Make a photo album called "LinkedIn Posts" right now. When you see a post that makes you think "I have a better version of that," screenshot it and move it to the album. When you are empty, open the album. You will not be empty for long. [I am not telling you to copy anyone's post. I am telling you to use their topic as a prompt for your own take.]

3. Your own analytics.

Pull your posts from 90 days ago and sort by comment count. The top ones are ideas worth using again, because your audience already told you they care. Most of the people following you now never saw that post the first time. Then sort to the bottom, and for each flop ask, "How would I write this today?" Half the time the idea was fine and the hook was the problem.

All 3 systems do the same job. They stop you from asking your brain to generate ideas on demand at 8am, and they let you catch ideas all week so you can show up and pick one.

Writer's block on LinkedIn is almost never a shortage of ideas. It is a shortage of ideas you wrote down.

I don't want to be another newsletter in your inbox. I want to be an actionletter. In every edition, I'll include a "Go-and-Do" below to help you take an action step TODAY that improves your LinkedInā„¢ performance, your business, or even your life.

THE GO-AND-DO

Before you close LinkedIn today, do 2 things. Open your Notes app and make the note. Open your photos and make the album. Both take under 60 seconds, and you will use them tomorrow.

The 4 Post Types to Cycle Through on LinkedIn
If you never know what to post, stop guessing and start cycling. There are 4 types of posts. Hit all 4 in a week and you have a content strategy. That is the whole thing. 1. Educational. How you did something. How to do something. A strong opinion about the way your industry gets something wrong. This is the post that proves you know your work, and it is the post most people are best at. It is ...
How to Find the Stories That Should Anchor Your Brand
My best posts are almost always stories. That does not mean every post should be a story. It means you should know your stories cold, because the stories you repeat become your brand. I call mine cornerstone stories. Here are my 3: 1. I was a broke single mom when I came to LinkedIn. 2. I watched my dad go from poverty to millionaire. 3. I was the last person to find out about my 2018 divorce. ...
Why Nobody Is Reading Your LinkedIn Posts
You wrote a good post. You know the topic. You have lived the story. You hit publish, and it got 4 likes, 3 of them from people who like everything. Before you blame the algorithm, look at the shape of the post on the screen. Formatting matters as much as content on LinkedIn. A wall of paragraphs gets scrolled past no matter how good the paragraphs are. You do not have to write broetry. You do ...
