The #1 Story You’re Telling Yourself on LinkedIn That’s Holding You Back

Aug 12, 2025
Connect

A few weeks ago, I went on a family vacation with 17 family members.

Honestly? I was not excited about it.

Everybody runs their kitchen differently.
Everybody runs their families differently.
Everybody vacations differently.

And this was the first time in my 41 years that we’d all stayed together in one house.
I was already playing out every possible disaster in my head.

Then my husband called me out.

“You’re painting a worst-case scenario of something that could be completely amazing.”

Dang, Andrew Joyner.
God forbid a girl have a spiral.

But he was right.

I decided to change my attitude and start rehearsing the “what could go rights” instead of the “what could go wrongs.”

And guess what?
The trip was fantastic. Zero tension. Zero drama.
Maybe even a Christmas-in-July miracle.

Here's a photo of us enjoying some Rosemary Beach shopping [but maybe not the Rosemary Beach shopping prices]!

LinkedIn Is the Same Way

We often approach LinkedIn like I approached that vacation.

We tell ourselves:

  • “It’s still social media, and I hate social media.”

  • “It’s a waste of time.”

  • “The people in my feed aren’t my kind of people.”

We rehearse worst-case scenarios instead of what could go right.

Here’s what could go right if you gave LinkedIn a real shot:

  • You could learn something new.

  • You could meet great people.

  • You could expand your network.

  • You could build a personal brand.

  • You could get attention for your business.

  • You could increase the world’s awareness of you.

I never thought I’d enjoy social media.
I never thought LinkedIn would be a major driver of my income.
I never thought it would give me more financial and work freedom.

Man, am I glad I was wrong.

Want the Shortcut?

I teach all 6 of my LinkedIn growth systems—step-by-step—in my LinkedIn Masterclass:

  1. Branding

  2. Profile

  3. Posts

  4. Content

  5. Engagement

  6. Scaling

These are the exact systems that helped me increase my own results by 231% in one year while working less.

If you act by this Friday, you’ll get free 1:1 calls with me to customize the systems to your exact business and audience.

My LAST masterclass of the year starts in 10 days. Seats are almost gone, and it will sell out.

Reply to this email with “I’m in” and I’ll send you the details.

Practical Tool: LinkedIn Systems Self-Check

Before you join—or even if you’re not ready yet—rate yourself 1-5 in each area (1 = “nonexistent” / 5 = “dialed in and working”):

  • Branding – Is your voice, look, and message consistent everywhere?

  • Profile – Does your profile clearly show who you are and why someone should follow you?

  • Posts – Do your posts get consistent engagement and start conversations?

  • Content – Do you have a plan that builds trust and authority?

  • Engagement – Do you regularly connect with, comment on, and support others’ content?

  • Scaling – Do you have systems that grow your reach without adding more time?

Your lowest score?

That’s where you should focus first.

10 lessons on writing...
I've been a writing for aliving for almost 20 years. Here are 10 things I've learned: 1. To be a "writer," the qualifications are simple: You write. 2. Writing well is hard. Anyone who says otherwise hasn't been writing long enough. 3. You don't have to write linearly. If you know where you want to land, start with the last sentence ("punchline" or "reveal") and build around it. 4. Writing is t...
1 truth to accept about LinkedIn™...
One truth we should all accept about LinkedIn: You can post daily. You can post helpfully. You can post strategically. You can post aesthetically. You can follow all the LinkedIn-lebrities and do every single thing they tell you to do. ... and still not become "famous" on LinkedIn. It's not going to happen for everyone. Cold, hard facts. But also ... facts that may set you free a little? Becaus...
