Crafting an About Section That Works
Hey!
Have you ever loved someone’s LinkedIn™ posts, only to click on their profile and feel let down by their About section? The tone shifts from conversational and engaging to a bone-dry résumé.
I’ve written 100s of About sections, and the most effective ones share four key traits:
1. They’re not detailed résumés.
Long, boring lists of jobs and achievements don’t resonate. Instead, focus on what’s relevant. Save your biggest wins for the end after you’ve captured attention.
2. They speak directly to the audience.
Your About section should answer: Why should someone follow or connect with me? Start with your audience’s pain points, explain your solution, and showcase real outcomes. Make it crystal clear who you help and how.
3. They’re entertaining and personal.
People read what feels authentic. Infuse your personality. Whether it’s humor, encouragement, or insight—give readers a reason to keep scrolling.
4. They stay current.
Your About section should evolve as your brand does. If your banner, headline, and content get updated, your About section should follow suit. Consistency builds trust.
By making these changes, your About section can become a powerful magnet for connection and growth.
Quick question: When was the last time you updated your About section?
Let me know if you’ve tried this or if you’re reworking yours—I’d love to hear what resonates!
