This Advice Doesn’t Work on LinkedIn When You’re Starting Out
Don't let big creators confuse you.
Let me be clear:
What works for them might not work for you.
And that’s not an insult. It’s just the reality of scale.
I’ve been on LinkedIn for 4 years. I run third-party research. I work with clients across industries. And here’s one hill I’ll die on:
What you do on LinkedIn changes depending on your stage.
The biggest creators—those with massive audiences—often say things like:
-
“You don’t need a post attachment.”
-
“You don’t need to post consistently.”
And while those statements can be true ...
They're also misleading if you're just starting out.
Why?
Because those creators have already built:
✅ Trust
✅ A loyal community
✅ Favor with the algorithm
They’ve earned the right to break the rules because they already played by them.
So if you're new, or you're still building?
Stop chasing exceptions.
Start mastering the fundamentals:
-
Show up consistently
-
Comment on other people’s content
-
Use white space so your posts are easy to read
-
Share helpful, valuable content
-
Write like a human—not a robot
But above all?
Be yourself.
Not the next [Insert Big Creator].
The first YOU.
So take in the advice. Try the tactics.
But keep what feels right—and ditch the rest.
Because there are best practices.
But there's also selling out.
Find your sweet spot somewhere in the middle.
