The Comparison Trap
One of the Biggest Mistakes People Make on LinkedIn™
Hey!
One of the biggest mistakes I see on LinkedIn™ is confusing exceptions for rules. Here's the truth: what works for someone with a massive following may not work for someone in the early stages of scale.
Big creators often say things like:
-
“You don’t need a post attachment.”
-
“You don’t have to post consistently.”
-
“Do what I’m doing!”
But here’s why that advice can be misleading:
Established creators have built:
➜ Trust with their audience
➜ A strong community that shows up for them
➜ Algorithmic value that boosts their posts organically
They’ve earned the luxury of flexibility. But if you’re in the growth phase, the standards remain:
-
Be consistent. Show up regularly to build momentum.
-
Comment often. Engage meaningfully with your network.
-
Use white space. Make your posts easy to read.
-
Share value-driven content. Teach, inspire, or entertain.
Above all, be yourself. Learn from others, but don’t try to become a copy of someone else. The sweet spot is finding what resonates with you and using best practices to amplify your unique voice.
What’s a common piece of advice in your industry that you think is overrated?
