Get better at writing in 3 minutes:
Step 1: Start With One Sentence
Open a blank document and write one honest sentence.
Not a “this-will-perform-well-on-LinkedIn” sentence.
An honest one.
Example:
-
“I’m frustrated that this post sounds like everyone else’s.”
-
“I don’t actually know what I think about this yet.”
-
“I care about this topic, but I’m afraid to say what I really mean.”
That’s your starting point.
Step 2: Set a 3-Minute Timer
Now hit start.
For three minutes, you are not allowed to edit.
No deleting words because they “sound dumb.”
Just keep typing.
This forces your brain out of performance mode and into what-you-really-think mode.
Step 3: Circle the Real Line
When the timer ends, read what you wrote.
There will be one sentence in there that makes you think:
“Oh. That’s the real thing.”
That’s your post.
Delete everything else if you have to.
Most weak writing isn’t bad because you’re untalented.
It’s bad because you buried the point under ten safer sentences.
And your actual voice is always stronger than your “professional” one.
Try it today.
Three minutes.
One honest sentence.
No editing.
You’ll be surprised how much better you already are.
